We invite you to a tour of the Krk island panorama. During the tour we will visit the most well-known tourist sites and try some of the most indulgent local wines. The locals say that out of around 1,244 islands there is only one golden island – insula aurea, which is the island of Krk. It is located in the Kvarner Bay and is the second largest Croatian island after Cres. Its mild Mediterranean climate, cultural heritage, beautiful views and golden beaches attract thousands of tourists seeking a relaxing holiday every year. It is believed that the magical number 7 is closely related to the history of the island. The Croatians arrived and settled on the island in the 7th century and they successfully protected the island from seven invasions of vicious pirates. Moreover, the seventh duke of the island – Duke Frankopan – was the last one who ruled the island. The island is also divided in seven districts. During the tour we will visit the town of Krk, together with its cathedral and fortress of the aristocratic family Frankopan in the Jurandvor village. In 1851 priest Petar Dorcić found here a board with the Glagolitic script, buried beneath the tiling in the floor of the Church of St Lucy.
The board is believed to date back to 1100 and is considered a vital source of information on the development of the Glagolitic writing as well as Croatian language and culture. En route, we will also visit the town of Vbrnik, located on a picturesque hill, which is famous for its Žlahtina wine, characterised by its golden-yellow colour. The town was mentioned for the first time in the 12th century and its locals specialised mainly in agriculture and, to a lesser extent, in fishing. During our visit we will also offer a wine tasting accompanied by finger food – cheese, crackers, olives, dried figs, grapes and nuts.
