Pula is the centre of today’s Istria and it is one of the most beautiful cities of Croatia. It is renowned for its numerous historic sites dating way back to the Ancient Rome, and undoubtedly its landmark is the amphitheatre from the first century built under the ruling of Emperor Vespasian. As the former Gladiator fighting scene, today, it is the concert venue and the place where many cultural events are organised. Other city’s gems include amongst others: the Roman forum, Augustus Temple, the Gate of Hercules and Arch of the Sergii. The Pula’s inhabitants are aware of the treasures which make them proud of the city and these historic sites often attract historic connoisseurs. Pula, similarly as Rome, has been founded on seven hills and it had been under the reign of the Venetian Republic for a long time, of which remnants can be noted not only by its architecture, but also in the mentality of the local inhabitants.
