Zagreb is the biggest Croatian city with today’s population of 800,000 inhabitants. It is still one of the most recent European capital cities, since when the country regained its independence in 1991. It is located at Sava river, on the southern slopes of Medvednica mountain range, which serves as a sport and leisure location for the local population. The city was formed on two hills: Kaptol and Gradec, on which the most remarkable historic sites are located. The most popular tourist places amongst others are Ben Jelacić Square, cathedral; that is proudly emerging in the skyline, St. Mark Square; which is a political centre of the city, Lotrščak tower and Mirogoj cemetery.
