Zadar is one of the most enchanting Croatian towns, popularly known for its most beautiful sunsets in the entire eastern coastline of the Adriatic Sea. Its origins date back to 4 B.C., when the Ilirija settlement was founded. As the Roman Jadera, it has been booming and it has become one of the most significant coast towns of the Adriatic Sea. Today, it is the fifth largest Croatian city, and an important tourist, economic and cultural centre in Croatia. On the picturesque peninsula, there is a historic old town with numerous cobbled streets, fascinating historic sites and the beautiful promenade with the world-renowned ‘Sea Organs’. Until now, the city’s defensive system has been preserved, together with the city gates, which has been listed as the UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2017.
