Ston is a small town located at the very isthmus of the Pelješac peninsula. In the remote past it was considered one of the most important cities of the aristocratic Dubrovnik Republic. Today, the landmarks from Ston’s heyday attract a great number of tourists. Ston is most well-known for its thriving oyster farming industry. The oysters that are produced here are considered one of the best in Europe and are high on the list of top aphrodisiacs. Apart from oysters, the town offers a wide range of fish and seafood appealing to the most refined palates. While visiting this town, it is also worth exploring the salt pans, which are considered the oldest still active salt pans in the world. It was the salt from there, also referred to as “white gold”, which brought the Dubrovnik Republic (the Republic of Ragusa) most of its wealth. For those interested in a bird-eye view of the municipality, we offer an opportunity to climb the city wall, which used to protect the town from military invasions in the past.
