Šibenik is the most Slavic town in Dalmatia. It wasn’t founded neither by the Greeks, or the Romans, but by the first Slavic tribes that had arrived here. It is situated on the hills, by the Krka river estuary into the Adriatic Sea. St. Ann’s hill proudly overshadows the town, from which you can capture a scenic panoramic view. Šibenik, is the oldest and also the newest Croatian city, it is the city full of stairs, old churches and palaces of noble families who had been strolling down in the past. The town was set up in the 5th century as the fortress town. Four fortresses which had surrounded the town were intended to fiercely guard against the capture. This is where Juraj Dalmatinac created a unique art work – St. Jacob Cathedral which is the pride and a landmark of the town. Each year the town attracts huge numbers of tourists who admire its historical sites, immerse in the history and an unbelievable charm.
