It is the largest and the oldest National Park in Croatia, which has been listed as the UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979. This gem of the continental Croatia is one of the most charming places in Europe. The turquoise lakes, glossy rock walls and the lush green of the trees forms a unique combination. The terraced-positioned lakes are separated by travertine barriers and make up numerous waterfalls throughout its area. Veliki slap is said to be the largest one, measuring at about 78 meters high, and it makes the largest waterfall in Croatia.
During early four-hour walk through the little bridges and forest paths, you will have the chance to admire the natural beauty of nature, untouched by the human. Each year, the relaxing emerald colours, the sound of water, abundance of flora and fauna make thousands of tourists go into rapture as they travel from the most distant parts of the world. The up-hill platform views provide a panoramic and breath-taking overview. At the foothills, the area is stretched over Korana river canyon, which wades through the forested mountain hills; and with the air saturated with a delicate water mist, it all makes a fairy-tale scenery.
