Međugorje is a small parish in the western Herzegovina, until 1981 it was only known to the locals residing in neighbouring towns and villages. On 24.06.1981 it became known all over the world. On St. John’s day, six children had the vision of the Blessed Virgin Mary – the Queen of Peace who sent them her requests. The parish, owing to Our Lady’s apparitions, has transformed from a rural parish to a site where crowds of pilgrims gather from around the world and within a short space of time, it has become a popular and the mostly visited St. Mary’s Sanctuary in the southern Europe, as well as the place of prayers, reflection, silence and tranquillity for millions of pilgrims from around the world.
