Ljubljana is one of the smallest European capitals and at the same time the largest city in Slovenia. It is an important political, cultural and economic centre of the country. Today, the city is populated by about 300,000 inhabitants. It is situated at the Alps’ foothills. The old town is positioned at the castle hill, along Ljubljanica River. Both riverbanks are connected with a few bridges, which enables an easy and quick transport from one part of the city to another. During the visit in the capital of Slovenia, the following historic sites should be visited: Ljubljana Castle on Castle Hill, St. Nicholas Cathedral, Tivoli Castle, the Triple Bridge or the Dragon Bridge.
