PRIMOŠTEN

Primošten is a charming town, known as a tourist centre. It is situated on the peninsula between Raduča and Primošten bays. The locals mainly live on cultivating vines, olive trees, fishery and tourism. Within the bay area, there stretch across two large beaches, which are believed to be one of the most beautiful in the region. Just before the Primošten, there are few independently scattered islands. The nearby slopes are covered by the popular Primošten vineyards, where the babić red grape is cultivated. The town is one of the most attractive destinations on the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea.

The centre of the old town comprises the network of narrow streets, and in the north and the south there are hotels and the Marina. On Smokvica Island, there is a beach for the nudists. The summer months are popular for traditional ceremonies and cultural events. In the 16th century, the island town was combined with the mainland by a bridge. The Primošten name originates from the Croatian primostiti name, which means ‘to bridge’. The town has been surrounded by the walls with towers, which was unfortunately destroyed in the 19th century.
