CUBA INTENSIVELY FAR AND WIDE(15 DAYS)

Cuba is a fascinating and exceptional country. It is a countrywith long and tumultuous history, which influenced the culture and tradition of its inhabitants. It is a country of paradise beaches, azure seas, scenic landscapes, and exquisite historic sites. This incredible journey will shift us into the world of all-dancing and smiling locals, into the world of the world-best cigars, great music, and fantastic drinks, and into an incredible and fairytale-like world. A world you will find it difficult to leave behind and would anticpate to return to as soon as possible.

Trip plan

DAY 1: 

The group’s arrival at Cuba, airport check-out, meeting with a tour leader and a transfer to a hotel in Havana. The accommodation, dinner and the overnight stay.

DAY 2:

After breakfast, there will be a visit to the capital city of Cuba – Havana.

The programme includes tour via Miramar and Vedado area (the affluent district from the pre-revolution times) and taking of photos in Malecon. We will visit a picturesque Callejón de Hammel narrow alley with murals inspired by Afro-Caribbean culture and religion before making our way to visit the former Presidential Palace. Next, we will drive to Central Park, including Capitol buildings, Gran Teatro de la Habana as well as the National Museum of Fine Arts (from outside). The Obispo walk will lead us to sites linked with Ernest Hemingway (Ambos Mundos hotel and Bodeguita del Medio bar) and to the Cathedral square. Free time or lunch at a local restaurant (price 15 €/per.) followed by a transfer to a Mercado de San Jose crafts market to buy souvenirs, and a small rum tasting experience in the former Bocoy rum factory. At the end of the day, photos will be taken at the Revolution Square and a return by American cabriolets for a dinner and overnight stay at a hotel.

***Tourists are also offered a ‘Havana by night’ tour to experience the canon show ceremony at 9p.m. shot from the fortress at San Carlos de la Cabaña.They stroll through the beautifully lighted Old Town Havana and the participation in a live-music dancing party, including a drink on the 33rd floor of Edificio Focsa (the tallest building in the town) with a stunning city-view (price – 35 €/per)

DAY 3: 

After the breakfast, there will be a continuation of Havana visit; a historic Christopher Columbus Cemetery with aristocratic and national heroes’ burials from 19/20th century, the cigar factory and the stroll down the Old Town – Arms Square with the oldest Havana building (Castillo de Real Fuerza) and Governor’s Palace, Plaza de San Francisco and Vieja Plaza with a magnificent colonial architecture. Free time or lunch at a local restaurant (price – 15 €/per.).

***Optionally, it is possible to take a private salsa lesson with Cuban partners (price – 20 €/per.)

In the afternoon, there will be a visit to the port guarding El Morro Castle, with a city panoramic view and a ‘In Hemingway’s footsteps’ tour that will let us learn more about one of the most interesting biographies linked with Havana. Also, we will get to reach small town such as Cojimar, from where the writer was leaving for hunting and where he was inspired to write ‘The Old Man and the Sea’. We will get to see San Francisco de Paula, where we will visit his ‘Finca Vigía’ home, recognised as the current largest and eldest museum in the world dedicated to the writer. The tour will end with a delicious daiquíri in the writer’s favourite bar (El Floridita). Then, a return to a hotel for dinner and the overnight stay.

***For tourists, there is an optional tropicana cabaret show in Havana, which had been attracting not a single American tourist (Parisien Cabaret – 50 €/per., Tropicana Cabaret – 100 €/per.).

DAY 4:

After breakfast, checking-out and the transfer to Soroa – a little town with a beautiful botanical garden popular for orchids and a journey to Viñales Valley with an unearthly landscape created by the mogotes – characteristic geological formations. The lookout from Los Jazmines viewing point will allow you admire the panoramic view of the whole valley and the cruise along the underground Indiana’s cave will leave you with unforgettable memories. Later, there will be free time to spend in the little town of Viñales or have lunch at a local restaurant (price 15 €/per.) as well as a visit to a tobacco plantation. Before departure, we will drink piñacolada at the Mural of Prehistory (one of the largest rock wall paintings in the world) and will head towards Las Terrazas National Park. Upon arrival (or next day in the morning), there will be a walk along the picturesque lake, checking-in a hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 5:

After dawn, there will be checking-out of the hotel and a short visit to a former Buena Vista coffee plantation, and a journey to Guama, where we will visit a crocodile farm and search for hummingbirds. In the afternoon, we will take a break to sunbathe at the Bay of Pigs (an all-inclusive price includes deckchairs and dinner!) and we will travel to Cienfuegos – a city called ‘the Cuban pearl of the South’. The plan includes the panoramic ride through the Pueblo Nuevo and Paseo del Prado historical centre as well as the visit to Palacio del Valle – the most beautiful building in the world.  This will also include the check-in, dinner and overnight stay at a hotel near Cienfuegos.

DAY 6:

After breakfast, we will check-out and head towards El Nicho waterfall, where we will be taken by a lorry! It will be time for sunbathing and taking of photos. In the afternoon, we will transfer to Trinidad and an optional seafood lunch, which the southern coast is known for (price 15-20 €/per.). A visit to the most typical and the most well-preserved colonial Cuban city – Trinidad (the UNESCO-listed city): cobbled streets, ‘sugarcane barons’ palaces with numerous colonial museums, the main square – Plaza Mayor, the former Franciscan sanctuary as well as Canchanchara – a tavern popular for a local drink that includes the mixture of honey, lemon and aguardiente! The check-in at a hotel near Trinidad, dinner and overnight stay. After dinner, there will be an evening-out at one of the music clubs in the city centre.

DAY 7: 

After breakfast, sunbathing at Ancón Peninsula. Check-out before midday and after dinner at a hotel (included in the price!), there will be a transfer to the Valley of Sugar Mills, where we will visit the Iznaga Manaca Estate with the viewing tower and the island’s oldest sugar cane press. From there, it is a short distance to the province capital – Sancti Spiritus. A short walk from the main square to the oldest rocky bridge in Cuba, built over Yayabo river and the transfer to a hotel within Camagüey area.

DAY 8: 

After breakfast, the check-out and a visit to a labyrinth-city: St John’s Square with merchant houses, Plaza del Carmen with fascinating sculptures of Marta Jimenez and Parque Agramonte – the main square of Camagüey. A short visit to a local market and the departure towards Holguin (a lunch break on the way – approx. 10 €/per.). Following arrival at the city, accessing the Hill of the Cross with a view-point platform, there will be a transfer to a hotel near Holguin for dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 9:

Early in the morning, we will check-out with a pre-packed breakfast and travel towards Cayo Saetia. Since it used to be a leisure place for political party officials, wild animals had been bred specifically there, allowing them to run freely as hunting are organised. We will go on a safari tour taking photo cameras, whilst observing i.e. zebras, ostriches and antelopes, then we will sunbathe on a paradise island and we will have lunch (included in price). In the afternoon, we will set off to Alejandro de Humboldt National Park – the biggest environmentally protected area on the island. The programme includes a short stay at an educational centre and then the arrival for an overnight stay at Baracoa. The check-in, dinner and an evening-out to a party at Casa de la Trova.

DAY 10:

After breakfast, we will journey to Rio Duaba River – time for sunbathing in a river and at a near waterfall.

***An optional trekking with a local guide on ElYunque (575m above the sea level, price – approx. 20 €/per.).

Next, a visit to cocoa plantation completed with a roasted piglet (included in the price). In the afternoon, a stroll down Baracoa – from Christopher Columbus monument through Malecón reaching La Punta observation point as well as the main square with Nuestra Señora de la Asunción cathedral. Then we will return to a hotel for dinner and the overnight stay.

DAY 11:

After breakfast, we will; check-out and journey through a mountainous Farola route – and Guantanamo Bay surrounding areas (including the well-known military base; a symbol of a conflict between Cuba and the USA) to Santiago de Cuba – the second largest city on the island. Upon arrival, there will be time for taking photos at the Revolution Plaza and outside Moncada barracks (which were the cause of the Cuban revolution). Next, we will stroll through the historical city squares (Plaza del Martes, Plaza Dolores with a school, which was attended by a young Fidel Castro and Parque Cespedes). Leisure time or lunch at a local restaurant (price – 15 €/per.) and in the afternoon, there will be a visit to the oldest house on the island – Casa Velazquez – with a collection of furniture from 16-19th centuries. At the end, we will ride onto the viewing point at a terrace of a Casa Granda hotel and we will walk down through Tivoli district with famous Padre Pico stairs before reaching the port. Then, there will be a check-in at a hotel near Santiago de Cuba. There will be dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

DAY 12:

After breakfast, there will be a check-out and visit to Santa Ifigenia Cemetery, where the members of the Bacardi family were buried. These are the people that fought for the country’s independence – including Jose Marti and more recently Fidel Castro. We will head for a food tasting experience to a production facility that had belonged to the Bacardi family and we will take a look inside El Morro fortress guarding the entrance to Santiago Bay. An optional lunch (price – 15 €/per.), and then the journey to the most important Marian shrine on the island – El Cobre. Later in the afternoon, there will be a short visit to the main square in Bayamo and the checking-in at a nearby hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 13:

After breakfast, there will be a long transfer to an all-inclusive hotel at Cayo Coco/Cayo Guillermo Island. We will stop for a lunch on the way (included in the price). There will be check-in, dinner and the overnight stay.

DAY 14:

Leisure time for sunbathing at one of the most beautiful Cuban beaches and the use of the hotel facilities.

DAY 15:

After breakfast, there will be check-out and a journey to visit Santa Clara – a city of which capturing by Che Guevara was decisive in a triumph over the Cuban Revolution. We will visit Guevara Memorial (Che’s burial site) and the ‘revolutionary’ armed train. Optional lunch (price – 15 €/per.) and then an airport transfer and the evening departure flight.

In case of an earlier departure flight, the programme will be subject to a change.
