BELLA SICILIA (7 DAYS)

Welcome to an incredible and exciting adventure with the fairy-like Sicily. The abundance in ancient historic sites, crystal-blue sea, gorgeous beaches, exquisite cuisine, rich tradition, and unearthly, exotic landscapes where an inspiration to many artists. This is how briefly you can describe the Island in the Sun. During our trip, in a few days, we will explore the fascinating history of the island. Also, we will visit the most fascinating places, see the tremendous heritage of the Ancient Era and taste top-class regional food.

Trip plan

DAY 1:

The Naples Palermo ferry (from 8:00pm to 7:00am).

DAY 2:

Travel along the northern coast to Erice – the medieval pearl of Sicily, the town known for its marzipan production. We recommend the walk through the narrow streets of the town, tasting marzipan products at one of the local confectionery shops and a walk to the Pepoli Castle. After a short walk, we will continue our journey to Castelvetrano, where we will stop for tasting ecological olive oil and local produce. After the food tasting experience and individual stroll, we will head for Selinunte areas to see the largest archeological park in Europe. At the end of the day, we will transfer to a hotel, check-in and the overnight stay.

DAY 3:

After breakfast, it would be time to depart for Agrigento. Visiting the remnants from the Greek times. We will see amongst others the Temple of Juno, the Temple of Concordia, the Temple of Hercules and the Temple of Olympian Zeus, located within olive and almond trees. In 1997, the entire archaeological complex was listed as the UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the afternoon, we will transfer to Piazza Armerina – charming Sicilian village with Villa Casale – remnants from the Roman times. At the end of the day, we will transfer to a hotel on the eastern coast of the island.

DAY 4:

The all-day tour to Etna and Taormina. Etna, the tallest active volcano in Europe will enchant you with its power. We will drive up closer to the craters of Silvestri Mountain (1900m high). Later we will make our way for a snack meal at a household at the foothills of Etna and we will taste typical Sicilian produce. After catching breath, we will travel to Taormina – one of the most magical places in the island, “the most wonderful piece of art and nature” according to Goethe. We will stroll down the narrow streets full of monuments, little shops with colourful paintings of local artists and restaurants, from where the smell of the served Sicilian dishes hangs in the air. Following the sightseeing, we will transfer to a hotel for the overnight stay.

DAY 5:

Today an all-day tour to Catania and Syracuse is awaiting us. Catania is one of the largest cities of the Island. Etna has had huge influence onto its development and appearance. The city has been repeatedly destroyed by the volcano and associated earth-quake activities. Each time, however, it was rising up from the rubble. Yet, lava served as the building block, which we will explore during our walk around the city. On the other hand, the history of Syracuse is related to such figures as Archimedes, who was born here, St. Lucia who died as a martyr, or St. Paul who had spent 3 days on Ortigia Island during the cruise journey from Malta to Rome. After the visit with a licensed guide, there will be a free time for coffee, delicious Sicilian ice-cream and local arancini or cannoli. We will return to a hotel afterwards and the overnight stay.

DAY 6:

After early breakfast, we will depart towards Palermo – the capital of Sicily. At first glance, the city seems to be chaotic, but it has its unique charm. In the city centre, there are numerous monuments scattered amongst modern buildings and crowded streets. We will see Palermo’s landmarks: the Benedictine Monastery, cathedra, numerous palaces and sculptures, which decorate the heart of the city. Following the visit and free time, we will head to the port. The cruise departure towards Genoa (the crossing from 10:00pm to 6:30pm).
